EAT YOUR SEASONS!
When you focus on using the freshest ingredients available in each season, every recipe bursts with vibrant flavor and nutritional benefits. At FIO, we aim to harness the unique feels of each season—one meal at a time! Here are FIO’s TOP 5 reasons to EAT SEASONALLY:

  1. MORE FLAVOR Just like all of you, we like food to taste it’s best. In-season produce is always going to be the tastiest option, so why fight it?
  2. MORE NUTRITION Produce harvested at the peak of ripeness is packed with all the vitamins and minerals they were meant to contain. You’re not going to get the same nutritional value from a veggie that was picked before it was ripe then boxed and shipped for weeks to your supermarket.
  3. LESS COST When lots of a particular fruit or veggie is harvested during its peak season, prices for that type of produce tend to go down. In addition, when a veggie is harvested locally, costs are cut even more by eliminating the need for transportation and storage.
  4. SEASONAL SUPPORT Your body’s needs change with the season, and we think your food should too. In the winter, vitamin C in citrus helps boost our defense against colds and flus, and steaming bowls of soup help warm our bodies up. In the summer, extra carotenoids in stone-fruits help ward off sun damage, while cool salads and icy drinks take the edge off the hottest days, and so on. It’s simple concept, but an important one.
  5. IT’S GOOD FOR THE PLANET Minimize your carbon footprint by eating seasonally—and whenever possible eat locally grown food (or even better, grow your own!). This means less fuel for transportation, less refrigeration, less hot houses, and less irradiation of produce. It’s truly a win-win for both you and Mother Earth.
